Transgender Day of Visibility Groningen 2026

Sinds 2023 organiseer ik elk jaar Transgender Zichtbaarheidsdag, ook wel Transgender Day Of Visibility (TDOV), in Groningen. We hebben ons eigen Instagram kanaal (@TDOV_Groningen), BlueSky kanaal (tdov-groningen.bsky.social) en WhatsApp community.

Het programma van 2026 bestaat wederom uit 2 dagen, en weer met meerdere onderdelen.

Op zaterdag 28 maart 2026 hebben we van 13:00 tot 17:00 een trans markt, met daarop een kledingruil, selfie-hoek, kunst, kappers, een rouwhoek en een Trans Podium. Op dit Trans Podium worden tussen 14:00 en 15:00 speeches gehouden, liedjes gezongen, en er wordt aandacht geschonken aan transgender welzijn. Uiteraard ligt onze focus bij Groningen, maar we zien ook dat de transgender gemeenschap in de hele wereld te leiden heeft, dus daar is ook aandacht voor.

Op dinsdag 31 maart 2026 houden we het iets kleiner. We vieren we transgender zichtbaarheidsdag op het Emmaplein, door rondom het standbeeld van Frederik Engel Jeltsema een Trans PicNic te houden. Dit standbeeld komt uit 1906 (dus 120 jaar geleden!), en is gemaakt door iemand die haar jeugd vrouwelijk doorbracht, maar vanaf zijn adolecentie mannelijk door het leven ging. Transgenders zijn geen hedendaagse trend, wij hebben altijd bestaan. We verbinden het verleden met het heden door de wachttijd op genderzorg zichtbaar te maken, als een hele lange ketting aan tafels en kleedjes die tussen de bloemen door slingert. De wachttijd is lang, maar door samen te zijn voelt het korter.

Your (Un)waiting Hands, Sat. March 28th, 13:00 - 17:00, Grote Markt, Groningen

“Your (Un)waiting Hands” is a participatory installation in which a rainbow-colored tarp marked with black tape crosses is gradually transformed through visitor participation. The crosses materialize a condition of waiting, conceived as a socially structured state of delay. Participants are invited to remove the crosses and relocate them to the borders of the surface.

In this work, subtraction functions as both aesthetic strategy and research method. In dialogue with the Pink Cube’s Our Exquisite Corpse, which builds through accumulation, this installation produces form through reduction. As crosses are displaced from the field to the margins, the surface becomes a visualization of waiting shortened through collective action. The evolving surface functions as both artifact and temporal record, allowing the redistribution of crosses to register the cumulative effects of collective action over the duration of the event.

❗❗❗OUR LAST COLLECTIVE SESSION❗❗❗ (for now)

Sat. March 28th, 13:00 - 17:00, Grote Markt, Groningen

Since starting our time-based tapestry we have brought her all over the country and even abroad, had countless conversations with countless different people about the waiting times in transgender healthcare, and after almost two years of spreading awareness it's time to take a hiatus from organizing collective sessions. On March 28th we will gather one more time on the Grote Markt in Groningen to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility together and add one last stretch to the clock. After that we'll take some time to focus on other projects, and hopefully regain the inspiration to continue Our Exquisite Corpse in the future.

We'll still take submissions made at home, the info on how to send in your own panel is still on the website of The Pink Cube!

Clothing Swap Info!

On Saturday 28th of March, between 13:00 and 17:00, we have a clothing swap on the Grote Markt! But how does a clothing swap work?

Wat is een kledingruil?

Een kledingruil is een evenement waarbij mensen kleding meenemen die ze niet meer dragen en ruilen voor kleding van anderen - een leuke en duurzame manier om je garderobe op te frissen zonder geld uit te geven.

Wat moet je doen?

STAP 1: Zoek thuis kleren uit die in goede staat zijn, maar die je niet meer draagt. Neem deze mee naar de kledingruil.

STAP 2: Lever je kleren in bij het kleding inleverpunt, zodat het het op kledinghangers gehangen kan worden.

STAP 3: Snuffel rond in wat anderen hebben meegebracht en neem mee wat je leuk vindt

STAP 4: Zorg ervoor dat je de kleren netjes achterlaat zodat anderen er even gemakkelijk in kunnen zoeken :)

Stap 5: Neem je vondsten mee naar huis!

What is a Clothing Swap?

A clothing swap is an event where people bring clothes they no longer wear and exchange them for items brought by others — a fun and sustainable way to refresh your wardrobe without spending money.

What should you do?

STEP 1: Bring clean, good-condition clothes you no longer wear

Step 2: Deliver your clothing contribution to a check-in point, so that it can be put on clothing hangers.

Step 3: Browse what others have brought and take what you like

Step 4: Make sure you leave the clothes in order so others can browse just as easily :)

Step 5: Take your finds home!

On Saturday 28th of March, between 14:00 and 15:00, we have a Trans Podium. Performances and speeches from the Trans Community will reach you :)

Every year we try to scout tallent and stories worth sharing. Last year, we had a program of over 2 hours, and we noticed that quite some people left before the end. This is why we keep this years Trans Podium shorter, on the Saturday, and earlier. It can mean that your story will have to wait until next year, but if you feel very eager, don't be too shy to reach out!
